Paul DeMaggio, Water Resources Engineer
Paul assists with the planning, design, grant writing, and implementation of projects with the goals of reducing water pollution from agricultural activities and improving water supply for agriculture. Examples of projects Paul works on include: converting from flood irrigation to sprinkler irrigation; improved flood irrigation practices; irrigation water management and scheduling; grazing management and stockwater systems; stormwater control practices; erosion control measures; livestock heavy use areas; and irrigation conveyance pipelines. Paul also assists with measuring flood irrigation return flow water quality, conveyance loss measurements in open canals and ditches, soil moisture, and general water sampling. He also teaches classes, seminars, and workshops to youth and adults related to agricultural water quality and management.
Paul is a registered Professional Agricultural Engineer in the State of Oregon, is a Certified Agricultural Irrigation Specialist, and has a B.S. in BioResource and Agricultural Engineering from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. Paul moved to the Rogue Valley in the summer of 2012 when he started work with JSWCD.
Paul has a passion for water resources and promotes open discussion among all stakeholders to develop win-win solutions that can bring us closer towards a balance between the competing interests for our most precious public resource.
In his spare time, he enjoys any and all outdoor activities and sports, and spending time with his wife and two kids.
